Why Should We Grow Our Eyelashes?

Eyelashes are considered a universal symbol of beauty for women, but unfortunately, men tend to have much longer lashes than women. There is hope for the women, though. While it is possible to grow longer eyelashes naturally by improving your diet by adding foods that are rich in carotene, magnesium and zinc, taking a multi-vitamin, applying natural lubricants to them at night such as coconut oil and vitamin E, massaging the eyelids and brushing your lashes regularly, these methods can be time consuming and quite slow to be show real results. Genetics also play a major role in the length an density of your eyelashes.

While it is of course possible to use mascara and fake eyelashes to give the appearance of longer eyelashes, there are a number of very effective products on the market that will grow eyelashes, or give the appearance of longer, thicker lashes.

Latisse with Bimatoprost

Latisse is the first product to be FDA approved for growing eyelashes longer, thicker, darker and fuller. Latisse is only approved for the upper eyelashes and is available only through a doctor’s prescription. It works by affecting the growth, or anagen phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways. It first increases the length of this phase, giving the hair more time to grow and then it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. It may cause your eyelid skin to darken, but this is a reversible side effect and it is safe to get some of the product in your eye. Eye soreness and redness are the most common side effects from using Latisse and it should be used daily for 16 weeks before discontinuing.
